We are here for the Cyclocross-curious

Cyclo-Cross (a.k.a. cyclocross, CX, cyclo-X, or 'cross)

Picture cyclists sprinting up stairs with bikes hoisted over their shoulders, jumping over barriers, and then riding through sandpits, all while being cheered on by a lively crowd with cowbells ringing in the background.

This internationally recognized sport aims to entertain crowds (the more heckling the better) with impressive displays of athleticism and the occasional spectacular wipeout. Colorful commentators add to the excitement, making the event enjoyable for both participants and spectators.

Go Cross is a friendly place for a first race! If you would like to give the sport a try, you’re in the right place. Let’s get you started:

 
 

CX Racing for First-Timers: 5 Questions with Kat Andrew

“Chances are you are going to find a welcoming community of folks on bikes who are happy you came to race!” Gear, training tips, encouragement, and more from local cyclist and outdoor rec coordinator.

Practice at Fallon Park Wednesdays 5:30pm (Aug-Oct)

“Run what you brung”- almost any bike will do: cyclocross, gravel, or mountain bike. Bring water and learn cx skills from experienced riders.

Here is a little run-down on the categories and what they mean. You can find out when each category races and for how long on the race schedule page.

  • Category 4/5 is considered beginner with Category 5 being an ultimate beginner and Category 4 having some experience.

  • Category 3/4 is considered intermediate and can also compete in the various age-group categories.

  • Masters races require a CAT 1/2/3/4 cyclocross license.

  • All races require a USA Cycling license. Except for Lil’ Belgians strider races.

  • One-day USAC licenses available at registration online and onsite ($15).
